By all the Bels in all the Hels

I have not slept. I am on the first day of the first period of 2006. It's Monday morning.
I have just had almost an hour long meeting about venture capitalists and equity realisations. WTF indeed*
I do not want to see a two hour presentaion about databases this afternoon.

*think of it like this, why go do highway robbery when everywhere they go has valet?

*would rather be in a presentation where I can zone out and think about fulffy things than on the phone to silly people all day who shout*

Ah... but see, you'll stay awake... I stand a Very Real chance of actually passing out.

I'd suggest painting eyes on your eyelids, that way if you do fall asleep it'll seem like you're awake. Apart from if you snore. Then your cover may be blown.

Or, say you take in information better if you do this new form of meditation. Funnily enough it looks exactly like you're sleeping but in fact you've moved onto a higher conciousness where you can really take in the information on a higher spiritual level, and therefore be both a better person and employee.

See one on one that might work... r50 other people, perhaps not...
But hmm... if I still feel like this in two hours I might try it...

Am hoping your database talk is really quite thrilling. I use databases, I know how terribly exciting they can be.

Awesome! Oh wow! Like totally freak me out! I said right on!
Yeah...

Groovy database fun.

Tell me a fact you learnt from your database talk, to show you were listening.

One option in how to deal with the database presentation is take 'notes' - i.e. write a story or bullet point character or even plot out what you're going to do in your free time!

Alternatively, you could watch paint try- that's bound to be more exciting...

Ah. thank you!
I normally do such things in irrelevant, long and dull meetings such as this, but I am so very tired I had not thought of it!
Woo!
Thank you!
Hmm, I wonder if they'll let me take in a blanket and pillows too...

You're welcome. I thought you might - it's something I try to do, when I get the option or am stuck in a meeting where I don't have to take notes/minutes. I find it's either keep busy or fall asleep. There's something about meetings that just makes me want to fall asleep.

I doubt the blanket and pillows will be allowed, but if you've got a good chair, that works.

When I was awake enough to take notes taking notes kept me awake. But there were times when there was no excuse to take any notes, and I tried to recite poetry instead, and then come up with pretentious phrasing instead, and then started to try and cost a bid and ... then I dozed off enough to drop my pensil case...

But at least you didn't doze off and start snoring... (or doze off practically next to Her Majesty's Special Representative to Sudan, as I have done.)
